Petunia and the Vipers

Louis Armstrong was once asked what his favorite kind of music was, and his response was simple; “Good music”. Petunia & the Vipers’ sound may not sit comfortably in one certain genre, but “Good Music” describes it well.  Hank Williams on acid… Tom Waits meets Elvis at Woody Guthrie’s Hobo junction… Avant-Country night club scene music… One of the best bands in the world today, of any kind… hillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime-goodtime-thunderously rolling-one-of-a-kind-you-don’t-want-to-miss-this-sort-of-a-show… A new music that springboards off of music of the past and jumps into the present day, left with only echoes of the past… Something in between 1920’s and steam punk. It’s good for your mind… These are just a few of the words uttered by folks around the globe trying to pin down a description of all that is Petunia & The Vipers.

Hickoids

FORTY YEARS OF CHAOS IN THE CORNFIELD

Celebrating their 40th anniversary, the Hickoids have carved a unique path through the musical landscape since their inception in Austin, Texas, in 1984. Founded by Jeff Smith and the twisted guitar genius John Thomas Jackson, aka Jukebox, the band initially set out to dismantle country music with punk rock swagger. Over the years, the Hickoids endured lineup changes, a lengthy hiatus, and the challenges of their chaotic origins, evolving into a singular, iconic-if-irreverent rock 'n' roll band with a lotta twang. From their explosive debut opening for Black Flag and the Meat Puppets to their current lineup, the Hickoids have become a Texas musical institution.

In 2024, marking their 40th anniversary, the Hickoids are set to release a highly anticipated studio album, More Ballads For Sleazy Riders. This LP, recorded in Barcelona, Tupelo, and San Antonio, promises to deliver more vintage Hickoids voltage. As they continue to defy expectations and embrace their unique blend of influences—ranging from psychedelia to outlaw country—the Hickoids remain committed to their craft. With Jeff Smith firmly at the helm and a lineup that has stood the test of time, the band looks forward to the future, promising more electrifying performances and a retrospective box set showcasing the diverse musical journey of the late Davy Jones. The Hickoids' 40-year legacy — four studio LPs, four singles, three EPs, one live LP, countless tours, and an entire business empire, including the Saustex Media record label and The Corn Pound complex in San Antonio — stands as a testament to their resilience, creativity, and unwavering commitment to keeping the music alive. That’s a lotta damned corn and hay abuse! And a lotta great rock ‘n’ roll.
