Pickathon Presents
Rose Gerber Record Release with Katelyn Convery
Sun Jul 14 08:00 pm (Doors: 07:00 pm )
21 and up
The Portland, OR based songwriter is an intrepid American roots explorer, grafting country, folk, rock, alt-rock, and alt-country into an ageless, ache-laden signature sound. As a writer, Rose is both thick-skinned and delicate, shape-shifting from Heartland rock n’roll to heartbreaking balladry with unpretentious ease. Her songs are snapshots of everyday living that capture meaning in the seemingly mundane, courageous letters-to-self that spill wisdom so raw it feels almost accidental. It’s that unflinching tone that lands her comparisons to Natalie Merchant, Gillian Welch, and Patty Griffin: a turn-of-the-millenium voice backed by the high-lonesome pedal steel whine, Doc Martins and cowboy boots, each in their turn

Artists

Rose Gerber

Known for the unique juxtaposition of her wry wit and ability to pen a heartbreaking ballad, Rose Gerber has been a fixture in the Portland, OR music scene where she’s honed her signature sound of rock meets country. Her songs are a melting pot of essential American sounds, bringing a high lonesome rock vibe to the familiar sound of the pedal steel whine. Think Natalie Merchant-fronts-The Cardinals.
Some might also hear hints of Gillian Welch, or Patty Griffin in her voice and songwriting. Both have also been described as poignant, haunting, and soulful. Her songs bare it all and hit home, giving the listener a dose of catharsis.
You can also find Rose performing with the americana trio Yellow Birds.

Katelyn Convery

Bittersweet angst and optimism weave through Katelyn Convery’s music, piercing the frontier of modern alt-rock, and harkening back to the edgy era of 90s NW grunge, with textures characteristic of early 2000s indie-pop. Alluring melodies, compelling arrangements, and perceptive, unapologetic lyrics land as a ferocious, buttery roar.  The result - something altogether timeless and new. And getting noticed. Katelyn's songs have appeared on the 2021 and 2023 PDX Pop Now Compilation Albums and she continues to attract a dedicated following at each live show.
